Dankk Diamond Member. Jul 7, 5, 16 The information on the sidepanel of the BIOS explains pretty much nothing useful I'm baffled as to how little information there is about this feature.
I've looked all over the internet about it, and I don't think anyone knows exactly how it works. How exactly will this feature help or potentially make things worse, for that matter?
Will it give me lower temperatures? Will it lower my gaming performance as well? Will my overall computer performance be slower? I'm not an overclocker, BTW. I'm just a little too curious about this feature and whether or not I should have it enabled, or just leave it turned off.
Feb 12, 3, 0 0. No, disable it. Jul 31, 1, 0 0. Thanks for that in-depth explanation, boris. It adjusts cpu voltage and speed according to load. It's been a while since I read a review about it but the savings were pretty much irrelevant. If I wasn't so lazy I would have tested it already to see if it has improved but since I am it'll have to wait a bit if ever. But likely it's biggest advantage is that it allows the marketing department to put some more fancy stickers on the box.

Maybe you can get an instance of the cpu clocking higher with HPC disabled, but if the CPU is throttling to under load, what would really be the point anyways? Indeed, since HPC mode is barely documented at all it is anyone's guess what it does besides changing turbo p-states. All I wanted to say is it did nothing for me once turbo was disabled with APM switched off.
No throttling so far. Although I did try what I now see as a dumb ads experiment. Curious to ser the voltage it would take to not hard lock prime.

Without kowing it, many users will feel no difference. In this way, computer manufacturers are trying to avoid possible problems with compatibility of hardware and software. It can be checked in several ways:.ASUS Z170-A Motherboard BIOS Overview
In this case, the problem can sometimes be fixed by updating the BIOS. In our case, there is nothing to see, but you will see it, if AHCI has not been enabled yet. For the first time after the restart, it is better to boot Windows in safe mode. Switch them to AHCI, save settings and restart the computer. After the restart, Windows will start installation of SATA drivers, and when it is over, it will ask you for another restart. After the command is executed, restart the computer again.
As you can see, these actions can theoretically result in unwanted consequences such as inability to start the operating system. That is why you should do it only if you know why you do it, if you can enter BIOS or UEFI, and if you are ready to fix unforeseen consequences if anything happens.

Changing BIOS only does not accomplish removal. Just tried this method and it turned my reasonably functional VAIO into a purple pumpkin that rolled over and started singing The Blue Ridge Mountains, after which it let out a plume of green smoke and croaked.

An arsenal of utilities is provided to let you easily fine-tune this extreme hardware and customize Aura Sync RGB lighting.
Newly designed for the latest generation of top-end ROG graphics cards, these fans feature a smaller hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring to increase downward air pressure.
An advanced onboard controller brings fans to a standstill when the GPU core temperature is below 55 Celsius, letting you enjoy light gaming in relative silence. As temperatures rise past the threshold, the fans automatically start up again. The extra thermal headroom increases overclocking potential and allows fans to run at even lower speeds in light scenarios. Do you prioritize low core temps or low noise levels?
Performance mode will let the fans spin up to keep the card running cool all the time.
Quiet mode keeps the same power target and top-end settings, but offers a less aggressive fan curve for quieter operation at medium temps. To deal with varying game and application workloads, the Turing architecture can change speeds in an instant, necessitating a power delivery circuit with the reserves to handle the onslaught when you dial up the clock. This reduces thermal strain on components and avoids the use of harsh cleaning chemicals, resulting in less environmental impact, lower manufacturing power consumption, and a more reliable product overall.

I learned something new I have a UPS that I've been using with my old computer and now with my new build. This was discovered last night when the power went out for the first time with my new build.
My PC was on, but idle when the power went out. The UPS triggered and everything was fine. After about 15 minutes of still no power, I decided to shutdown the PC just in case the power was still out when I wanted to use it later. Well, the power was still out when I turned on my PC. I tried it 3 times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Now the PC fans have always come on full blast for about 5 seconds and then settles down to typical running performance, but I would have never thought the PC would draw that much current to overload the UPS.
Here's where the "not an electrical engineer" part comes into play. What I didn't know is that even a PSU under W could overload my W UPS at startup based on something called an "inrush current" which could be up to 3 times the "nominal wattage" depending on the efficiency of the equipment starting up.
How to Enable AHCI Mode for SATA in BIOS without Reinstalling Windows
Say wha? So my questions are related to how I might be able to reduce the "inrush current". What does the "Max Battery" setting do and will the performance be hindered after "OS handoff"? I don't want to sacrifice performance for power savings.
Is there something else I can do in the BIOS short of performance clipping so my computer doesn't come barreling out of the gate like a horse on steroids? I think a steady gallop is fine to start with.
Also, during the 5 second wind vortex, the two fans for my Hi seem to be the loudest but that could be because they're at the top. I wonder if the fans could be contributor to this issue. I'd give them a try on the MB if someone has the experience to tell me that it would be beneficial to move the fans to the MB for monitoring of speed and temp control.
Or does the Hi need to be in control for best performance? If it comes down to it, I would rather find something else to do in the dark for the occasional outages rather than reduce my PC's performance just so I can boot at those times. When I get a chance, I'm going to test waking from sleep to see if the issue occurs then.
Thank you - Intel Core iK 3.
7 AMD Ryzen tips and tricks to maximize your PC's performance
You are probably spot on regarding the inrush current. As an example consider a normal W light bulb. During operation it draws about 1 amp. When cold and first turned on the inrush current may be as high as 15 amps. Switching power supplies such as what's used in PCs have even higher inrush current because of their design and input capacitors. Your measured 65W load at idle will be much higher when the system is first turned on.
Assuming W when first turned on as in the light bulb example above the initial wattage would be approximately W. Please note this is a very rough approximation as the design of the power supply and system components will have an effect on the calculation as well as the system being an RC load compared to a purely resistive load such as a light bulb filament Most quality UPS devices have circuitry in place to handle the anticipated inrush current based on the spec'd wattage capability of the unit.
Thanks for reading my long winded post and replying.
In hindsight, I would have lost interest halfway through. Do you think that tinkering with boot performance options and fans would even help?As well as Ryzen performs out of the box, however, enthusiasts can turn knobs and tweak settings to push the processors even further. Not only does each chipset offer varied interface support for technologies like USB 3. Usually, we advise most PC users to ignore motherboard BIOS updates unless they need to add a specific new feature, due to the small, but real possibility of bricking your hardware.
Revisions released during the initial months have greatly increased speed, stability, and available features for AMD systems. You definitely want to stay up to date during these early days for Ryzen. New to the process? But different motherboards support different memory speeds, and your BIOS may not be configured to take advantage of the best performance out of the box.
